Channapatna toys are traditional, handcrafted wooden toys made in Channapatna, a small town in Karnataka, India. They're also known as "Gombegala Ooru" (Toy Town). Key Features of Channapatna Toys: Material: Primarily made from soft ivory wood (Aale mara) and occasionally hale wood, rubber wood, or sycamore. Finish: Coated in natural, non-toxic dyes derived from vegetables — making them child-safe. Craft: Turned and lacquered wood using a lathe (lac-turnery), a centuries-old technique. Design: Brightly coloured figures, rattles, stacking toys, puzzles, animals, and traditional dolls. Recognition: Holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, protecting its unique identity. ?
